Enhance Your Teeth With Veneers

VeneersDental veneers are uber-thin shells made of porcelain or resin. This oral health solution is custom tailored to each patient’s unique mouth to beautify and protect the front portions of teeth. Veneers provide visual uniformity with surrounding teeth to make your smile as lovely as it can be.  Veneers made of resin are created with a composite material that matches the color of natural teeth.  Porcelain veneers are often favored as they are ideal for aesthetics. This style of veneer looks natural and proves difficult to stain.

How Veneers Can Improve Your Teeth

Veneers will help improve the appearance of teeth that have large fillings, stains or excessive fluoride exposure.  A tooth treated with a root canal will also benefit from a veneer.  Perhaps your teeth are misaligned, oddly shaped, uneven, broken, chipped or worn due to excessive grinding.  Maybe you have a gap between your teeth, an abundance of gum tissue or teeth that have an unsightly shade after years of consuming foods and beverages that cause discoloration.  Add veneers to your teeth and each of these oral health problems can be remedied.

The Veneer Placement Process

Enhancing your teeth with veneers starts with an initial consultation.  You will sit down with your dentist to discuss veneers and design your smile aesthetic in terms of form, shade, size etc. Once a model of your teeth is created, it will be used to create a provisional set of veneers comprised of plastic.  This set can be worn for a couple weeks so you can determine if veneers are optimal for your mouth.   Impressions of every tooth requiring a veneer are transmitted to a specialized laboratory.

The dental lab technicians combine porcelain powder and water, apply it to a mold of the teeth and bake it.  Multiple layers are created to replicate the translucency of natural tooth enamel.  This lab creates the veneers to suit the nuances of your mouth. It takes about a week or two for the veneers to arrive.

Once the veneers are delivered, the dentist will place them on your teeth with a dental cement.  The veneers are then applied after the dentist removes about half a millimeter of enamel from the surface of the teeth in question.  This small amount of enamel is removed so the veneer adequately sticks to your teeth.  The dentist will then shine a beam of light over the veneer to ensure adequate hardening.  If any excess cement remains following the placement process, it will be removed. Do not worry about potential pain during the veneer placement process. The dentist will discuss the possible use of an anesthetic prior to the veneer placement process to numb any potential pain.

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are ideal for patients whose teeth do not respond well to conventional methods.  Those who have crooked or damaged teeth will find porcelain veneers to be quite helpful.  Porcelain is so hard and durable that it can withstand all sorts of stimuli including harsh chemicals.  Opt for porcelain veneers and you will find they last between seven years and upwards of two decades.
