According to the American Dental Association, studies show that 50 percent of adults have had bad breath at some point in their lives. Finding out how you can avoid having bad breath in the first place means that you are taking preventative measures in order to ensure you are always in good oral health.

What causes bad breath?

There are many reasons why someone would be diagnosed with bad breath. But, the most common reason is due to too much bacteria living in the mouth. Bacteria loves to find and feed on any hidden food particles in the mouth. If bacteria is not removed in a timely manner, then it will begin to grow. Medical conditions

It is possible that a medical condition can be responsible for someone’s bad breath, such as diabetes, kidney disease and gastric reflux

How to avoid bad breath

The ideal way for anyone to avoid having bad breath is to take proper care of their mouth, which includes brushing and flossing at least twice a day. The following is a list of ways anyone can use to avoid having bad breath.

  • Use a mouthwash specifically made for treating halitosis
  • Chew on sugarless gum or suck on sugarless candies
  • Eat an apple or plain, unsweetened yogurt
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Drink green tea or peppermint tea
